Ballast’s playfully punchy voice emerged when Ben Kiel compressed an Egyptienne typeface into an extra-narrow width for New York magazine. After modifying the typeface for Supermajority, Ben continued evolving Ballast’s concept, exaggerating the ball terminals and carving out as much space as he possibly could to allow tight, dense typesetting.
